A Few Things You May Not Know About Me

Although many of you may have known me for years, you may not be aware of my history – the reasons behind my dedication to optimal health and an over-arching passion for Wellness.  My whole-hearted embrace of Pilates, Meditation & Mindfulness, and Mind-Body Medicine is rooted in my youth, life events, and a personal quest to immerse myself in holistic health practices.

Pilates

I started Pilates in 1995, and shortly after my first full certification, I opened my first studio in Denver’s Capitol Hill. I’ve been teaching full-time ever since! I’m a second-generation teacher, meaning my mentors learned directly from Joseph Pilates.

Pilates returned my life to me after two severe car accidents that left me with multiple injuries and years of rehabilitation. You can read the full story here.

Meditation & Mindfulness

I was 5 years old when I (along with my sister) was introduced to meditation in our father’s Kung Fu studio. A Shaolin Master and mystic, my father also taught us concentration, breathing techniques, and visual meditation during our childhood years. Then, I learned transcendental meditation (TM) and began a formal practice at seventeen during my first year of college at Colorado State University.

Although I’ve had wonderful teachers throughout the years, my Mentor and Meditation teacher for the past ten years is Dr. Deepak Chopra. I continue studying with him today and with my teacher from the Chopra Center, Roger Gabriel, through yearly seminars and monthly online gatherings. You can learn more about the fundamentals of the Meditation offering here.

Mind-Body Medicine

As you can imagine, coming from a Lebanese family on both sides, food is a big part of everyday life and every celebration. My Sittees (Arabic for Grandmother) and my amazing mother taught me to cook. Fresh food and a Mediterranean diet – long before it was all the rage – set the stage for a love of Nutrition, cooking, and eating!

I’m a certified Ayurvedic Consultant, Health Coach, and Perfect Health Lifestyle Instructor [more on Perfect Health here]. With some overlap, my studies encompass a broad area of study in Integrative Nutrition and Mind-Body medicine. My passion is helping people live and feel better, and I’m honored to work with people all around the world in person and through my online business.

Of course, I love teaching. From 1:1 Optimal Lifestyle Consulting sessions to the Perfect Health Program, as well as specialty classes and training to employees of Corporations and Destination resorts.

Coming in 2024

As a follow on to the November Food as Medicine short course “Superfoods & Phytochemicals,” I’ll present “Body Intelligence Techniques (BITs).”  Meditation students will be happy to hear that “Reconnect to Joy through Meditation” will be offered next year, as well. I’m excited to teach these in-person courses in the studio, as well as to continue offering off-site options for classes and training specially designed for personal groups, business associates, or employees. Contact me to learn more.
